"Turn of the times" is the key term for understanding the present. The Russian war of aggression on Ukraine has led to the destruction of the European peace order. The long-held hope has been shattered that interstate conflicts can be settled without the use of force through negotiation and dialogue in accordance with the dictates of international law. This has resulted in uncertainties and risks. Germany is responding to this with a long overdue reorientation of its security policy. Its goal is to better protect and more effectively safeguard peace and freedom in the future. More than ever, therefore, action in the sense of an ethic of responsibility will be required in all areas of society in the future. This study provides contemporary historical, sociological, political science and ethical analysis in this regard.
