The Martin Ranch is back up and running, with new ranch hands helping Eliza, Christopher and Alice. Adam is hard working but quiet, getting on with his work without saying much to anyone. 

When Eliza is introduced to Susanna by a mutual acquaintance, she immediately invites her to the ranch. Susanna has an affinity for animals and is thrilled at the invitation. 

Adam is less than impressed when the unconventional Miss Susanna tells him how to break a nervous horse, but he slowly begins to respect her ways when she manages to do something he can’t. Respect slowly begins to blossom into something new. 

Unfortunately for Adam, the old ranch hands are set to make trouble for the Martin Ranch, even putting Susanna in danger.
