Dakota "Dax" Maddox is content to fade into the shadows of the Oubliette. Among the cast-off and the lost, Dax is at home in the crumbling neighborhoods more commonly called the Hole. The world had turned, and Dakota had fallen back to where he had started. He had been there and done that, fighting the good fight for God and country. But his war is long over, his country fractured, and his God dead. Dakota believes that the darkness holds no more surprises.The light of a beautiful woman will show Dakota the truth hiding in the inky shadows around him. For her, he will descend through mystery, murder and much more. Dax will have to clear his own name. He will face a genuine evil that writhes beyond the light of civilization. Dax will have to confront reality-bending dangers and overcome the ghosts of his past. In the end, his greatest challenge will be the darkness within himself.
