Weakness

David H.J.Gay begins this work by saying: 'Some huge paradoxes lie at the heart of the new covenant. In publishing this book, I have one particular paradox in mind - weakness and power. As Paul put it: "When I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Cor. 12:10). Weakness and power in the new covenant. Both of them. But: "When I am weak, then I am strong" (2 Cor. 12:10)? Really? A rank contradiction, isn't it? Whistling in the dark? Far from it! Both weakness and power have vital roles to play in the new covenant. And, moreover, the believer's power really does lie in his sense of weakness'.

Having argued that Christendom has ruined the virtue of weakness - replacing it with greatness - he goes on to appeal - on the basis of Scripture - for a return to the new covenant.
