It reflects the history of the Marienkirche in Aachen as the chief church and burial site of Charlemagne, as the coronation church of the kings of the Holy Roman Empire, and as a pilgrimage site during the Middle Ages. As such an important church, it has had its share of sensitive losses. This book shows artifacts which previously belonged to the treasury of Aachen's Marienkirche but which have since been dispersed throughout the whole world. Each of these objects is presented in words and images and they also help to explain the fate of other objects likewise caught up in the history of the treasury's dispersal, which remains a part of the changing history of the Marienkirche. So werden positive wie negative Verflechtungen der Aachener Marienkirche in einen internationalen Kontext deutlich.
