Unsafe Harbor tackles the sensitive issue of domestic abuse, and it does so sympathetically, letting the reader gain an insight into the mind of the victim, the compulsion to always try again, believing this time it really will be different. Katie, a young, idealistic journalist, is seduced to a life in a small Rhode Island community by her new husband Jeff. Soon, however, Jeff starts to show his true colors: a dominating man, pillar of the community and ruler over his house, wife and children, and life turns rapidly into a living nightmare. Katie finally escapes when her life is put in direct danger, but she is not yet ready to give up on the man she fell in love with, believing in the sanctity of marriage. Jeff worms his way back into Katie's life with promises of new beginnings. But will Katie believe that Jeff is really a reformed character and that he will give her a happy ever after? Strong, believable characters make this a gripping novel.
