Death is burning with deadly heat and fumes towards them.



They stand on the edge of a tall skyscraper's roof, a raging fire roaring towards them.



There is no escape.



They take each other's hands and kiss for the last time before they choose to leap to their deaths together.



Twist! They are rescued.



An older dog, blind in one eye, limps across a lonely street, thinking it is safe. Suddenly a roaring engine is heard; a drunken driver crashes around a corner and weaves out of control for the helpless dog.



Twist! The dog is saved.



Neither the dog nor the young couple knows what just happened. Only that they are still alive. But they were saved by a man with special powers.



His name is Chess.



Chess has a secret. One that others want so badly they are willing to kill for it; even him!



Chess is a genius. But even smart guys. And funny ones. Have to be careful. And Chess is all of those, but he has a small problem, other people want to learn what he knows. Do what he can do. Except they don't want to save people; just the opposite!



He's special; he knows it.



But what they want isn't special.



It's deadly.



Chess is smart. But is he smart enough? Sometimes smarts and jokes just aren't enough. Can he keep using the powers he was born with to help others without losing his life, his will and his moral character?



Or will he fall into the hands of an unscrupulous secret organization whose goal is not to help mankind, but to subjugate it?
