Treating Families and Children in the Child Protection System

Crenshaw proposes a new integration of many of the existing theories and practices of family and child counselling with those of the welfare, child protection, and social services programs. This new approach, termed a therapy of family justice, combines quantitative and qualitative methods of research with theoretical treatments and practical applications of the care of children and families in the Child protective services. Relying heavily on a wealth of case-studies in which this new approach has been proven effective, the book poses many difficult and timely questions about the nature of CPS systems, the care that both children and parents receive when involved, and the rightful place of justice within these areas. These case-studies demonstrate the real-world applicability of this therapy of family justice, showing the complex and painful intricacies of all stages of a case, from its background to beginning and continuing family therapy sessions, to a variety of eventual outcomes.
