Transdermal Fentanyl

This volume presents the results of an international workshop which attempted to provide a critical evaluation of theoretical and clinical studies with non-invasive fentanyl applications. It also intended to provide an opportunity for researchers to exchange ideas about the value of fentanyl for pain management. Readers are warned that fentanyl represents a new administration mode rather than a new drug, and that its sustained application requires well-reflected diagnosis and good general standards of pain management. Topics discussed in the volume include the physiology of transdermal permeation, experiences with other transdermal systems, the present state of acute and chronic pain management and experimental and clinical studies with fentanyl, stressing analgesic efficacy and side effects.
