Med sin sædvanlige vid og humor fortæller Sir Terry Pratchett her en vidunderlig historie om en fars store kærlighed til sin lille søn. Uden rigtig at bemærke det, får vi også trænet vores kritiske blik på eget samfund. For hvilke kvaliteter gør egentlig et menneske til en god politibetjent?
