"Red hated that smile the most; the smile was one of lust, aimed squarely towards him." He has never seen the outside of his containment cell, he has been the victim of horrifying experiments and torture at the hands of a perverse genius. With the arrival of a kind scientist, he is allowed to explore the outside; touch grass, feel the air, smell the forest. The assault stimulates his mind in ways his captors could never comprehend.
