Beskrivelse
St Clement Danes was home to a mix of rich and poor residents, including lawyers, artisans, servants and prostitutes. From being the site of aristocratic riverside houses in the 17th century, it became a commercial and cultural hub in in the 18th. After decaying into slums by the 1800s, it was subject to a period of grand construction, the buildings and streets of which characterise the place as we know it today. This book reveals the vibrant cultural, economic, political and religious life of the parish from the Restoration to its abolition in 1900.
