The Search for the Unified Field Theory (Football Version)

This is the author's personal journey as an unauthorized sports reporter and how this led to private conversations with University of Michigan Coach Lloyd Carr and some of his assistant coaches, including description of the kind of meetings that reporters never get to attend. The book also relates an odd turn, taking iconic coach Bo Schembechler's last autograph (on a helmet) to Warren Buffett in Omaha. In addition, the author explores certain statistical metrics, including some unusual ones, and Coach Carr's reactions to these ideas. Ross takes a new look at the transition in coaches at Michigan--- from Carr to Rich Rodriguez--- and details the history of offensive football from 1895 to present day, with a focus on explaining the basics of current spread offenses. The book is marginally gonzo and fun.
