The Sandusky, Mansfield & Newark Railroad

Very little has been written about that little north-south railroad that shot straight south across the prairie flat lands of Ohio's Erie and Huron Counties, snaked its way through the twisting valleys of Richland and meandered among the rolling hills of Knox and Licking Counties. A half dozen separate railroad starts, none of which were profitable and doomed to failure, were blended into one final effort, the Sandusky Mansfield & Newark Railroad Company. This book by historian Robert A. Carter, The Sandusky Mansfield & Newark Railroad - Early History of The Lake Erie Division of the B&O (Second Edition), is a brief study of the need, the obstacles, and the never-ending challenges faced by those who built and those who ran the first railroad in North Central Ohio. Included in this volume are 104 photos, maps, newspaper articles, tables, and other illustrations.
