Beskrivelse
This book supplements and broadens the author's study "The Rental of Houses in the Neo-Babylonian Period (VI-V Centuries BC" (2018). The new texts published here demonstrate that the rental of houses brought the entrepreneurs of the famous Neo-Babylonian Egibi family regular income for a long period of time. The tenants of the houses of the Egibis were representatives of many families operating mainly in Babylon, as well as in Borsippa and Kutha. To assess the nature of these mutual relations, it was necessary to study the family archives that survives to our time and the plentiful data about the families in the documents of other families. The renting of the house was only one of the activities (and income) of the Egibis, but these data provide an insight into the mutual relations of the Egibis with many other families. The richly annotated editions of 27 contracts for house rentals and 21 receipts from Babylon, Borsippa, Dilbat, and Sippar are supplemented by extensive indices.
