The Navy of the Republic of Texas 1835-1845

Students of history are generally aware that Texas, for ten years, was an independent Republic. However, many in this select group are surprised to learn that Texas in her struggle for independence possessed a Navy powerful enough to aid her in the struggle, and to successfully combat every effort of Mexico to regain her territory. The author in his research consulted a variety of sources and reference material, including newspapers, various Texas governmental documents, Texas histories, private papers, and material from the United States Naval Department.
