China, 1915 Two young sisters, Sulan and May, are sold to a rich merchant and his wife, who take them to Vancouver, Canada. An ocean apart from their family, they don't know where they are, they don't speak the language, and they are prisoners in their "master's" house, forced to care for a cruel, sadistic mistress and her bratty son.
