The Guardians

The Guardians is a new work of Urban Fantasy based in present day London. It is the first of two books following the exploits of Detective Inspector Stands, and Sergeant Daniel Waves as they become involved with beings who form the basis for our very myths and history. And this is how it starts... "Above them the sky was still a dull, turbulent grey despite the sudden summer storm having delivered most of its payload over the previous few hours. It had been torrential, tropical almost in its intensity, leaving the street around them slick with unlikely sediment, grit and refuse. Though somewhat cleaner due to it's dousing, the South London street still looked unkempt and neglected. Tris held his face up to smell the air hoping that he could clear his nose of the stench in which they sat, whilst trying at the same time not to draw any attention from the dozens of policemen gathered at the other end of the street. Tris's companion looked at him quizzically as he once more tried to find a comfortable position in which to continue their vigil. The last hour had flown by with the arrival of the police and the ensuing chaos which inevitably results from too many people not knowing what they're supposed to do, but the many hours they'd hidden there prior to that were beginning to weigh heavily on them. Such a long period of in-action followed by such explosive violence had left them both drained. As they huddled down amidst the filth, they could both hear the latest in a long series of sirens approaching the site of their most recent encounter with death. 'Garf, shhh " When Detective Inspector Stands of the Specialist Crime Directorate, and his Sergeant, Daniel Waves are called in to investigate a suspected multiple homicide at an old derelict cinema in South London they stumble across a conflict centuries old; an ongoing battle between creatures of the darkness and the Guardians of the Kingdom.
