Beskrivelse
The Gateway: U.S. Immigration Issues and Policies, edited by Barry R. Chiswick, addresses the importance of immigration to a wide range of US economic and social issues, as well as relations with other countries. Since the Dillingham Commission report in 1911, there has been little systematic research on immigration issues and policies. This volume comprises the edited proceedings of a conference organized to provide substantive research on which to base public policy. It was sponsored by the American Enterprise Institute and the College of Business Administration, University of Illinois at Chicago Circle. The volume consists of the following parts:
Part One: The Supply and Demand for Immigrants, with papers by David M. Reimers, Michael J. Greenwood and John M. McDowell, and Jagdish N. BhagwatiPart Two: The Progress of Immigrants, with papers by Barry R. Chiswick, Andrew M. Greeley, and Walter FogelPart Three: The Economic Impact of Immigrants, with papers by Jeffrey G. Williamson, Barry R. Chiswick, and Julian L. SimonPart Four: Alternative Immigration Policies, with papers by Larry C. Morgan and Bruce L. Gardner and Robert S. GoldfarbEach part also contains commentaries and discussion of the papers.
