Beskrivelse
2018, the world was shaken by a revelation that seemed ripped from a spy novel: Cambridge Analytica, a company unknown to most, had harvested the data of more than 80 million Facebook users without their consent. Those data-preferences, interactions, fears, and even insecurities-were turned into a political weapon. With them, personalized messages were crafted, capable of altering perceptions, manipulating emotions, and ultimately influencing elections.
Suddenly, it became clear that our most intimate thoughts were no longer just our own. What we believed to be a space for entertainment and social interaction was revealed as an invisible battlefield, where algorithms and psychological strategies could tip the balance of global power. Individual freedom, that notion so celebrated in modernity, seemed to have been hijacked by machines designed to know us better than we know ourselves.
But Cambridge Analytica was only the beginning of a long chain of warnings. Years later, a simple TikTok video can trigger a wave of global outrage, disrupt financial markets, or even sway the outcome of an election. The speed at which an idea, a rumor, or a lie spreads surpasses any human capacity to react. Algorithms don't just predict the future-they manufacture it.
And then generative artificial intelligence arrived. In a matter of months, what had once belonged exclusively to the realm of science fiction became everyday reality: machines capable of holding fluid conversations, producing images indistinguishable from reality, and responding with an apparent "consciousness." Thousands of people have already experienced that unsettling feeling of talking to a system that seems to understand them, making them question what it means to be human-and what it does not.
This is not only about technology, but about how the digital is colonizing the deepest part of our identity: the soul. Our freedom, our emotions, and even our ability to decide are increasingly shaped by invisible forces that dwell in screens, cables, and servers scattered across the globe.
We stand at a historic crossroads: to allow algorithms to define who we are, or to reclaim control of our digital soul before it is too late.
