Many years later, Cait Dawes and Marcus Roper have gone their separate ways. Marcus is still a detective and Cait is now a private investigator. The Stenfield carnival is attacked by a suicide bomber and yet in all the carnage, one young girl survives without a scratch on her. But there is something about the girl that makes Marcus uncomfortable in a way that he hasn't felt since his run-in with the Rogues. He calls on an old friend and soon he and Cait are reunited as they try and find answers to how the girl managed to survive and her link to the suicide bomber Boyd Rillington.
