The Best Views of Heaven Are from Hell

The Greatest Generation was called to acts of uncommon bravery to defend the fate of Europe, Asia, and the Free World from the Axis Powers. As more of them are laid to rest, it is more important than ever that we document and remember their stories.

 

This is the story of just one of them - Roy J. Boyter, of the 29th Division, 2nd Batallion, 115th Infantry Regiment, Company E. Roy served in the US Army between July 1943 and October of 1945 - a time of rapid developments and conflict. Roy survived a stiny as a prisoner of war and would go on to win the Purple Heart for his distinguished service.

 

From his early beginnings in 1925 to his death in 2018, Roy carried with him the lessons and wisdom of his time in combat. Any war enthusiast or student of history will be swept up in the late Boyter's first-hand account of survival on the front lines of the defining conflict of the 20th century. His story is a priceless historic record that sheds new light and perspective on what it was like to live through the war not as a history lesson, but as a daily struggle for survival.
