The Beginning

Approximately 66 million years ago a great meteor hit Earth destroying 75% of all life on the planet. For the 25% of animals that managed to survive, life was precariously balanced for another million years. Now it was happening AGAIN In 2017, a meteor destroyed San Francisco killing thousands, and initiating some dangerous ecological changes. Scrambling to understand the cause, scientists discovered that more meteors were coming. They estimated that the next and more devastating hit on Earth would be in the year 2056. The only way humankind could survive was to find a way to leave their home world and spread into the galaxy. They had some time to prepare, but not much. This is the story of the brave men and women who saved mankind. It's the story of Sally Richards and Joe Cooper, whose efforts after the 2017 disaster won them the Medal of Freedom, and an invitation to join the newly revitalized NASA. Together they set off with the first wave of galactic pioneers to start settlements on the Moon. But the second wave of pioneers had to go much further ... to Mars and beyond. Could they be ready in time?
