Beskrivelse

Beware the evil in the woods...

In a village at the edge of the wilderness of northern Russia, where the winds blow cold and the snow falls many months of the year, an elderly servant tells stories of sorcery, folklore and the Winter King to the children of the family, tales of old magic frowned upon by the church.

But for the young, wild Vasya these are far more than just stories. She alone can see the house spirits that guard her home, and sense the growing forces of dark magic in the woods. . .

Atmospheric and enchanting, with an engrossing adventure at its core, The Bear and the Nightingale is perfect for readers of Naomi Novik's Uprooted, Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus, and Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials.

I actually loved this book! I've never read any Russian litterature, but was surprised how much of my attention it got. Sure it is quite stereotypical in some way, but so is so many books. I thought that it was well written and the different characters felt a bit like family members. I'm looking forward to next book :)

This book didn't do much for me at all.. I'm a huge fan of Russian literature, both classics and fairy tales! I honestly never got the feeling that any of the characters were Russian let alone real people, they felt so stereotypical and I didn't connect with any of them. To be frank the protagonist was just annoying! What was the point of this story? Maybe it's a YA, which generally isn't really my genre, but I'm still surprised how lacking the character building was! The story wasn't really that interesting and it all felt very predictable... I honestly can't recommend it!
