Texas Backyard Birdwatcher

Bird-watching is an inexpensive, outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by all ages at any time of the year; and the topic of birds is one which contains many essential scientific concepts, including animal classifications and habitats. With more birds than any other state-almost 650 identified species-Texas is a birdwatcher's paradise. This beginning birders field guide contains an overview of bird characteristics and descriptions for over 30 common backyard birds. Texas Backyard Birdwatcher and its companion activity book, Bird Is the Word, are part of the Teaching Texas series. Each book in the series is designed to teach the foundational concepts of Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies as outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for grades K-3 and the Texas Prekindergarten guidelines for preschoolers.
