The dismantling of the Umayyad Caliphate of Cordoba gave way to a process of political and territorial fragmentation that contributed to weakening Islamic power vis-a-vis the incipient Northern Christian kingdoms and ultimately leading up to the establishment of the Almoravid dynasty.
