Study planning

There are demands for research activity in the biomedical sciences and the process of planning, funding, permissions, data acquisition, analysis, and writing of the research article often seems problematic for the new and often even for the experienced researcher. Many may also wonder what actually happens after the paper is submitted, how their work is handled through the editorial process, and what may influence the decision for acceptance or rejection. Thus, there are numerous issues in the many phases from idea to publication. The purpose of this book series is to guide you through the different steps of the research journey all the way from the initial idea and until you see your final paper in print. About the author: In my professional life I am professor and chief surgeon at Herlev Hospital, a large public hospital attached to the University of Copenhagen. I was assistant editor for 6 years and thereafter editor-in-chief for 7 years of the Journal of the Danish Medical Association (www.ugeskriftet.dk) and the Danish Medical Journal (www.danmedj.dk). These are signature journals of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org), and by that I served on the ICMJE for the 7 seven years as a chief editor.
