"Spin the Dawn" by Elizabeth Lim is a mesmerizing fantasy about a young girl and her ambition to sew three magical dresses.

Maia Tamarin from the Great Spice Road dreams of becoming the best tailor in the land. But as a girl she has no chance. Therefore, she disguises her as a man and travels to Summer Palace to compete in the emperor’s sewing competition. If Maia’s true identity is revealed her life will be ruins, if she wins she will fulfill her biggest ambition. But the competition is far from easy. To win she has to sew three magic gowns for the emperor's bride-to-be: One from the laughter of sun, one from the tears of the moon and one from the blood of the stars. To sew the dresses, she embarks on a wild journey to seek the sun, moon and the stars.
