Smart Structures: From Concepts And Applications

The book presents a comprehensive coverage on smart structures, starting from basic concepts, to a wide spectrum of critical applications, that include piezoelectric-based sensors, actuators, and the self-sensing actuators. Throughout the book attempts have been carried out to develop electrical analogies of the structural/piezoelectric interactions.The book is organised into seven chapters. The first three chapters cover the basic concepts of structural dynamics, control, piezoelectric actuators, and piezoelectric sensors. While the following four chapters cover a wide range of important applications in active vibration control, passive shunted piezoelectric networks, comprehensive piezoelectric energy harvesting technology, ending with piezoelectric-based periodic and metamaterial structures. Every chapter ends with several problems, the solutions of which are found in the solution manual.
