Beskrivelse

The Shadow Kingdom is a fantasy short story written by American author Robert E. Howard, first published in the pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1929. It is notable for being the first appearance of Howard's most famous creation, Conan the Barbarian, although in this story, Conan is referred to as Amra of Akbitana. The story is set in the mythical land of the Hyborian Age, a world of swords and sorcery inspired by ancient civilizations and mythology. The protagonist, Amra, is a thief and adventurer who finds himself embroiled in a plot involving the serpent-men of Valusia, a powerful and ancient race that seeks to overthrow the kingdoms of men.As Amra delves deeper into the mystery, he confronts dark sorcery, treacherous plots, and monstrous creatures, all while relying on his cunning and skill with a blade to survive. The Shadow Kingdom is renowned for its atmospheric writing, fast-paced action, and vivid world-building, establishing the tone and style that would define Howard's later Conan stories.Although The Shadow Kingdom was not initially intended to feature Conan, Howard's iconic character quickly captured the imagination of readers and became the central figure in many of his subsequent works. The story remains a classic of pulp fantasy literature and a must-read for fans of sword and sorcery fiction.
