Serien minder mig meget om da jeg læste "Blue Bloods" bøgerne af Melisa De La cruz, ikke fordi the selection handler om vampyre, men fordi vi er i de øvre grene af et samfund, hvor man skal opføre sig på en bestemt måde for at blive set som værdig. American Singer, heltinden eller protagonisten i historien rammer så langt fra denne norm som man kan. Og hendes måde at være anderledes en mængden er hvad der får en til at falde for hende, dog må jeg samtidig sige, at hun er den mest irriterende karakter jeg nogensinde har læst. Hendes ubeslutsomhed og stædighed giver en lyst til at kyle bogen mod den nærmeste væg. Og forholdet mellem hende og de to mandlige karakterer i hendes liv går i alle tænkelige retninger gennem de tre bøger. Hele dramaet om hvem hun skulle vælge, kunne være afsluttet i første bog, hvis hun bare kunne tage en beslutning! Samtidig savnede jeg et dybere indblik i det klasse opdelte samfund og historien bag landet, der er en god bid med forklaringer og historie, men jeg savnede mere, jeg ville vide mere. Dette håber jeg bliver uddybet i fjerde bind der udkommer til foråret 2015. Selvom jeg har mange kritiske tanker om bogen, elskede jeg den hele vejen igennem og læste alle tre bind i løbet af et par dage. Hvis du elskede det kærligheds drama der var i Hunger Games, eller Bridget Jones' Diary, vil du også kunne lide kærligheds historien i disse bøger. Der er mange søde øjeblikke, der vil få et hvert pige hjerte til at smelte.
