SCHOOLHOUSE MEMORIES

Schools created a sense of community. As the community of Hoquiam, Washington grew so did the schools, not only in pupils but in teaching methods too. This book provides a chronology of the Hoquiam schools, from 1874 through 1960s. As the authors weave the reader through the history, they feature their great grandmother who in 1897 was the first "woman" assistant principal in Hoquiam's public school system. Other key local historians are also featured.
