As a combat veteran-turned-counselor, I wanted to save other veterans, not play a role in destroying innocent lives.

In my defense, I didn't know the terrible secret hiding within the walls of my business.

Battles, the gym I opened to combine physical and mental health, has been my sole focus for the last ten years. Opening a new location means I can't afford any distractions-certainly not from Leilani Moretti, my new employee who's as sharp as she is beautiful.

It doesn't take her long to uncover the facts I missed, and that's when it all goes to hell. I just wish I would've listened before it was too late.

Now all I can do is shield her from the fallout. But do to that, she needs to accept the truth: I'm the disaster. She can't save me.
