Beskrivelse
In the early and mid-Twentieth century, engineering was considered unsuitable for women. The first group of three women to graduate with engineering degrees did so in the 1940s from the College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), one of the oldest engineering colleges globally and the oldest in India. It is now under the umbrella of Anna University in Chennai.
In the 21st century, many technical educational opportunities are available to women. The enrollment in engineering colleges has a high percentage of women. However, this does not translate to a sustained engineering career. Critical events in women's lives-such as marriage, babies, and elder care-interrupt women's work lives. Coming back to work from that interruption in these fast-changing days is hard. Women must find ways to refresh their skills and re-enter the world of work to make progress. The stories in this book are excellent examples of women resourcefully navigating such interruptions to enjoy successful careers and fulfilling family lives. Their lives are models of courage, initiative, perseverance, innovation, entrepreneurship, resilience, and flexibility.
This Second Edition of Roots and Wings has an extra story, rounding out the number of women portrayed to 30. Enjoy the stories of these role models and be inspired.
