Remembering Romford

During the twentieth century Romford has developed almost out of all recognition, from a quiet market town to today's shopping and entertainment centre. In his new book well-known local historian Brian Evans explores this dramatic story - not just illustrating the new buildings and developing streetscenes but also the town's changing society and social life. A wide range of fascinating historic photographs are complemented by memories from older inhabitants as well as vivid impressions of the town provided by many local schoolchildren.

New shopping malls together with pubs, vars and nightclubs are taking a renewed Romford into the twenty-first century. This book reocrds much of what has been lost, but it also looks to the future.
