authors offer 119 recipes they consider most representative of New Orleans home

cuisine.

The trio have drawn extensively from the three primary

cultures-English, French and Spanish-that have contributed most to refining the

city's culinary specialties, in many cases unlocking nineteenth century cooking

secrets discovered in old handwritten notes.

Suzanne Ormond, a native Orleanian, and Mary E. Irvine, a

long-time resident of New Orleans, are also the authors of Louisiana's Art

Noveau, which documents and illustrates the celebrated crafts of the Newcomb

Style. Denyse Cantin, a native of Quebec City, Canada, lived in New Orleans

while her husband served as the Consul General of Canada in the city.
