When you look up the definition of parent you will find "Parent: any organism that produces or generates another." That textbook answer leaves us with many more questions. What about all the emotions that drive us to want to be parents? What about the motivation that drives us to want to do what's best for our children and raise them to be healthy and productive adults? Whatever drives people to become parents, there is one certainty... being a parent can be one of the most wonderful and fulfilling experiences that a human being can undertake. At the same time, it can also be one of the most frightening and challenging experiences. This book will address those questions, starting with the desire to become an effective parent. It will then provide you with tools and techniques, as well as demonstrate that being consistent with these simple techniques will enable you to raise happy children. As I write this book, I specialize in individual therapy with children, adolescents, and adults as well as neuropsychological evaluations to diagnose or rule out learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, dementia, and brain insults due to head injuries. I am also experiencing my children during the infancy and toddlerhood stages and incorporate my professional and personal experiences into this book.
