Poetry and Cultural Diversity

The author presented a pedagogical approach to cultural diversity in the classroom incorporating vignettes and original poems. Poetry is universal. Some of it can be simple and easy to understand. Others can be more complex and difficult to fathom. Poems are good discussion openers for any topic, in any discipline. So, the poet is someone who recognizes, and sometimes comments on aspects of cultural diversity. The poet declares, comments, and observes. Because of this, poetry can be used as a teaching resource in a variety of disciplines. Poetry content is composed of diverse topics, diverse styles, and diverse renditions. Poetry can be used by teachers, and others to introduce and discuss difficult and complex topics and ideas.
