Beskrivelse
From the birth of our nation to date of this writing, the United States has been at war 232 years out of 249. All too often these engagements are fought over corporate interests, while examples of bravery and valor become used as shining endorsements for recruitment and to garner public support of ongoing conflicts, as our men and women in uniform sacrifice life and limb.
Several years ago I participated in a group show at a local art museum. Each participating artist was to create one work of art per day through the month of March, for a total of 31 pieces. Since the Iraq war began in March of 2003, I had wanted to express my feelings on this conflict (and war in general) through my art; especially those sent off to war. This museum exhibit allowed me such an outlet of expression. The plight of the individual soldier was the focus of this body of work.
A gamut of emotions is expressed here, in 31 images portrayed in a variety of illustration styles. This exhibit makes no effort on my part to shame those who serve, or those who don't, nor blame any particular ideology or political leaning; it's merely another way of looking at the facets of an ages-old subject.
