Papa Bear's Fence

Author Karen Meyer remembers many stories her mother read to her when she was little. One was about a bear family. Later, when in high school, her English teacher encouraged story writing. When a preschool teacher, she wrote songs and dramas for the children to act out from stories they had heard. She is now writing stories for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When illustrator Joan Graven was a little girl, she would sit on her father's lap during the sermon in church to help her be still and quiet. He would make it fun by showing her how to draw animals using shapes. These church drawings grew into a lifetime love of art and led her to teach high school art for many years. She particularly loves to draw and paint landscapes and animals.
