Oranges and Golden Apples

On 14th January 1969, Sir Matt Busby finally stepped down from his position as manager of Manchester United. What wasn't known at the time was his relationship with Jimmy Murphy, had become increasingly strained over the past decade, with the two drifting apart following the Munich air crash. Oranges and Golden Apples attempts to tell their story from the disaster in 1958, up until the late sixties. Using dramatic licence this short novel goes on the tragic journey. Two men though never blood brothers, good pals. This is a tale of the dark truth behind the myth that so often gets told. We end at the beginning, but in between so much hurt and despair. The heart of the book is a meeting in an empty Old Trafford that takes place between Matt and Jimmy, and their heartbreaking attempt to put a decade of hurt to right as they opened souls and laid bare the brutal pain of Munich. So much laid unspoken is said, nothing spared, there are tears, anger and laughter as these two Manchester United legends finally confront the torment of Thursday 6th February 1958.
