Oracle: The Waning Years

Did they know the end was upon them, in those last days? Did they know that they were living in the scant few remaining years of peace left before a civilisation that had lasted beyond all memory finally collapsed, conquered by a foe that was stronger, more vital, less complacent? The only answer that reason affords is that no, they could not have known, though we know now that they must have been warned, if only in the oblique manner of the prophets of doom. Yet how could they interpret such prophecy? How could any one person, bereft of the knowledge bitter hindsight has granted us, possibly have guessed what was about to happen?

These are the stories of the last years of an Empire, of the political wrangling, the skirmishes, the thousand tiny signs that maybe, somehow, things were not as they seemed. These are the last legends of the last hours of an age now lost to history.
