Beskrivelse

2014 National Book Award Finalist A Time Best YA Book of All Time (2021) Travis Coates has a good headon someone else's shoulders. A touching, hilarious ';tour de force of imagination and empathy' (Booklist, starred review) from John Corey Whaley, author of the Printz and Morris Awardwinning Where Things Come Back.ListenTravis Coates was alive once and then he wasnt. Now hes alive again.Simple as that. The in between part is still a little fuzzy, but Travis can tell you that, at some point or another, his head got chopped off and shoved into a freezer in Denver, Colorado. Five years later, it was reattached to some other guys body, and well, here he is. Despite all logic, hes still sixteen, but everything and everyone around him has changed. That includes his bedroom, his parents, his best friend, and his girlfriend. Or maybe shes not his girlfriend anymore? Thats a bit fuzzy too. Looks like if the new Travis and the old Travis are ever going to find a way to exist together, there are going to be a few more scars. Oh well, you only live twice.

I loved Noggin by John Corey Whaley, it was an original, funny and moving read. I went into this book knowing nothing more than the fact that the main character, Travis, had been dead and had come back to life, which is, really, everything. I’m not saying that nothing else happened in the book, but the main focus is Travis and his new body. We follow Travis as he is getting used to his new life and his struggle with accepting that things aren’t the same and people and things have moved on. I expected Travis to have come back way, way into the future and that it would be a completely different world, but without revealing too much, I can tell you that that was not the case. The idea and storyline John Corey Whaley has created is amazing! And he’s perfected it with a really well-developed narrative, easy to read language and believable and interesting characters. Whaley had managed to cram in humor, sorrow and all that’s in between and some nice insignificant, yet significant, subplots involving homosexuality, religion, divorce and so on. I went into this book thinking that it was going to be this weird and original story. I was right! I have been nothing but positively surprised by this book. And so I’ve chosen to give it five stars, because nothing could be done better!
