No Hope of Rescue

I knew I was in love with Brock Weston the moment he rescued me from that ledge in Garden of the Gods. But he was engaged and I was building a new life, so burying feelings was the right thing to do. When the engagement was called off, I was his shoulder to lean on and even then, I said nothing. How could I? Heartbroken, trying to put his life back together, he asked me to become his business partner for Weston Search & Rescue.

Now, he and his sister are missing, a blizzard has hit the Rockies, and I'm terrified. I can't believe I may never see him again. If he's found, if they are found, I've made a promise I will tell him exactly how I feel. I owe it to myself, to him, and to us. I won't give up on him.

What started out as a morning climb has turned into a nightmare. I've been shot, a blizzard is blowing in, and three men have taken my little sister. All I can think of is rescuing Codie and punishing the men who came from nowhere. I know my lifeline, Riley, is out in the snow somewhere. I have to trust that she will come-but it's ten degrees out and snow is blowing sideways. I can't have her risking her life to find me.

As an Air Force captain, I've seen combat, suffered PTSD, and a tattered heart. Through it all, it was Riley I was able to talk to, Riley who I listened to-and Riley I may be in love with. I've always known Riley has a reckless streak that stops with her heart. She refuses to throw it away. Her love needs to be earned, and I'm determined to do just that.
