Neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions of salivary glands

Salivary gland lesions, though rare, has always been kind of mystery be it for study purpose, be it for diagnostic evaluation or from the patient management point of view. It has been like a hidden alien that presented each time with a new sort of presentation and has confused histo-pathologists from time immemorial. The plethora of lesions and their presentations has been so vastly confounding as to cause serious pitfalls in the diagnosis of rare salivary gland lesions in the previous times thereby necessitating the development of special stains and newer diagnostic modalities. To simplify these confusions and to clarify our ever emerging doubts it is necessary to know these lesions from the basics and to proceed accordingly in our approach to their diagnosis.
