New York City, October 1926, and baseball fans across the nation are glued to their radios, while New Yorkers are packing into the new Yankee Stadium to watch Babe Ruth knock another ball out of the park in the World Series games against the St. Louis Cardinals. It is also the era of sensational newspaper coverage by sob-sister reporters dishing out trial coverage of bad girls who'd gunned-down the men who done them wrong-"Gin and guns, either one is bad enough, but together they get you into a dickens of a mess." While The Babe and "the babes" make headlines, Dorothy Parker and Robert Benchley, with the help (and occasional interference) of their Algonquin Round Table gang, investigate a rash of murders of psychics who should have seen it coming.
