This book spans the best part of the 20th Century laying out the story of the generation that left the Netherlands for Australia following the traumatic second world war, to emigrate to new lands filled with hope and the promise of freedom. The story begins at the beginning of the 1900's in a tiny brick house in a small village overlooked by the imposing church in central Netherlands. Here a shocking event occurred that ripped one family apart and is tragic in its ramifications for family members. This biographical account gives unique insight into how people and complicated circumstances were dealt with in a different, and somehow harder era. Yet out of this, and despite the dangers in the Second World War, the story that unfolds remains optimistic and filled with faith-inspired hope.
