વિક્રમ અને વેતાળની વાર્તાઓ ખૂબ જ જૂની છે. તે મૂળ રૂપથી સંસ્કૃતમાં લખવામાં આવી હતી. ઉજ્જૈનના રાજા વિક્રમાદિત્ય (વિક્રમ)એ સંન્યાસીને વચન આપ્યું હતું કે, તે વેતાળને લઈને આવશે. વેતાળને લાવવા માટે એ શરત હતી કે, રાજા વિક્રમ આખા રસ્તા પર ચુપ રહેશે. જો રાજા વિક્રમ બોલશે, તો વેતાળ પાછો પીપળના ઝાડ પર ચાલ્યો જશે. જ્યારે રાજા વિક્રમ વેતાળને લઈને રાજ્યની તરફ જઈ રહ્યા હતા, ત્યારે રસ્તામાં વેતાળ રાજા વિક્રમને એક વાર્તા સંભળાવતો હતો. વાર્તા સમાપ્ત થયા પછી વેતાળ રાજા વિક્રમને સવાલ પૂછતો હતો અને વિક્રમ સવાલનો જવાબ આપે છે. જવાબ આપતા જ રાજા પોતાની ચુપ્પી તોડી દેતા હતા અને વેતાળ ઊડીને ચાલ્યો જતો હતો. બાળવાચકો માટે વિક્રમ અને વેતાળની કેટલીક એવી જ અનોખી તેમજ અવિશ્વનીય પૂર્ણ વાર્તાઓનો સંગ્રહ પ્રસ્તુત કરી રહ્યાં છીએ. પ્રત્યેક વાર્તા કોઈને કોઈ શિક્ષા આપે છે. આ જ કારણ છે કે, આ વાર્તાઓને બધા આયુવર્ગના વાચક અત્યંત રુચિપૂર્વક વાંચે છે. આશા છે કે અમારા બાળવાચક આ વાર્તાઓને વાંચીને આનંદિત થશે.
