Beskrivelse
Methodist Characters is a collection of sketches which Daniel Owen later developed into a series of linked short stories about fictional Methodist characters connected with a fictional chapel (actually in Mold). They were first published in the May 1878 issue of Y Drysorfa (The Treasury). This was about five months after the journal had published the last of seven sermons that Daniel had contributed during 1877.
This newly translated work of Owen's serves up a new insight into his north Welsh Methodist milieu, and lets us look through his eyes and see caricatures of village life. Owen's satirical observations earned him the rather flattering sobriquet of the Welsh Dickens, and this work certainly expanded his audience where he established his ability to capture characters.
