Light Steps

{O Prophet! We have sent you as a witness, and a bringer of good news and a warner}

{And a caller to Allah by His permission and a light-giving lamp}

Follow in the illuminated steps of the Prophet ¿ with a poem for our times in the seerah tradition, relating and reflecting upon stages in the history of the Prophet Muhammad's ¿ journey. Light Steps is written in the style of a devotional, narrative ballad with a rhyme scheme set in a four line quatrain, and explores elements of the Prophet's life as a meditation on his light-filled message and character.

Muhammad ¿ is of flesh and bones but is blessed with the most powerful of light, a light that fills the spiritual and physical worlds by the Grace of Allah."





The horizon was lit up

With Light of Divine Inspiration.

As Jabal al-Nur bore the weight

Of the beloved's illumination.

Veiling our beloved

And his companion within a cave. 

A thread of spider silks woven

To distract a hunter's gaze.
